About Us

At UPC Flanders we seek to be a family nurtured by God through our fellowship, Christian education, and diverse opportunities for spiritual growth.

We are a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA), a church body tracing its roots to the Reformation in 16th century Europe. We Presbyterians identify ourselves as “Reformed and always being reformed” under the Word of God, meaning we cherish the heritage of our tradition but are always open to God’s ongoing work among us.

For the past, we say “thank you." To the future we say “yes!”

Church History

Being UNITED is a part of our past, our present and our future. The UPC, Flanders family is the product of the 1959 merger of the former Mt. Olive and Flanders Presbyterian churches. We have been at our current location on Drakesdale Road since 1983.

Our Past: In 1959 the First Presbyterian Church Flanders and the Mt. Olive Presbyterian Church merged to form the United Presbyterian Church, Flanders.
Our Present: In March of 2005 our church leadership adopted the following phrase to be used with our name: "United in Hope, United in Love, United in Christ." This was an acknowledgement that our UNITY is more than an interesting part of our history, but rather our unity in Christ defines who we are today.

Our Future: At the same meeting in March the church leadership worked to discern how we are called to live into our identity as "United in Christ." As a result of that period of discernment the leadership articulated the following understanding of how our Unity in Christ leads us into the future:

Unity - We incorporate God’s family into our fellowship.

Praise - We joyfully celebrate God’s presence in worship.

Care - We demonstrate God’s love through service and evangelism.

Formation - We educate God’s people to nurture spiritual growth and discipleship.
